David Iaconangelo writes in his House Republicans Roll Out Sweeping Hispanic Outreach With No Mention Of Immigration Reform story:
A host of House Republicans, including party leaders and Hispanic representatives, appeared in a video commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month on Monday, where they praised the contributions Hispanics have made to the United States and highlighted their “deep commitment to faith, family and community”. But that video conspicuously left out any mention of immigration reform, an issue which has highlighted the racial and ideological lines along which the two parties are drawn. And their launching of a sweeping Hispanic outreach campaign – including new staff members and a flood of efforts to engage the Spanish-language media – appears to indicate that the House GOP might be betting it can win over Hispanics without straying from its Tea Party grassroots.
Will the Republican Representatives learn the lessons of 2012 when it was discovered women and Mexican-American / Latinos voted overwhelmingly for President Obama?
If House Republicans are going to continue to drag their feet in fixing the broken immigration system; Mexican-American / Latin voters will drag their feet when the GOP is asking for voting support.
Here are the exit polls with regard to the 2012 Presidential election cycle:
Mexican-Americans account for almost 70% of the entire “Latin” population pie, and they are also the fastest growing population in the country. We await the United States Senate as we compile a list of those who stood on the right side of immigration vs. those who do not stand on the right side of immigration. “DREAMers” may not be able to vote, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Chicano / Mexican – Americans can vote on behalf of those who aspire to live the American dream. Mexican-Americans who can vote are already looking ahead to 2016, because we are well aware of the approximate 500,000 new coming of age Latin voters per year. The likes of Rep. Steve King and Lamar Smith are putting the GOP on the path to extinction.
Now more than ever we are telling our members to call Congress in an effort to fix the clearly broken immigration system. We must support LEGAL comprehensive immigration reform because immigration is protected under the supremacy clause of our United States Constitution.
